Dreamscape is taking a lot longer than my first effort below, partly due to inertia now that I know how much work writing, arranging, performing, programming, recording and producing is. However, it's now structurally complete in the sense that each track is listenable. Only the last four tracks are no longer subject to tweaking. They're the mellow ones.
Notes:
"Lost Angel Road" at present it sounds a bit raw because it isn't finished so I've added the concert crowd to give it a live sound. Unfortunately, I didn't understand a subtle detail about how the recording software works so I lost some of the original material and have to start over with that one.
"You're the Moon and Stars": many thanks to Adam Huber, shaman and singer/songwriter extraordinaire, for his input on this, the first song I ever wrote but the second-last recorded.
"Lifecycle" is part of a soundtrack for the 3D animated DVD release Soleste: Meditation Mandalas by Dugg O'Rielly. "Silver Lining" was originally a candidate for part of the soundtrack.
The Green Man started out as part of an exercise in learning how to sing in my old age. Later it turned into an archive of riffs and composition ideas that I used to noodle on the guitar before I gave up playing entirely for about 20 years. I thought I'd better make a record of them before I forgot everything. I managed to recover most of them and they expanded in terms of instrumentation.
Some of my favourite tracks are the vocal exercises but they can't be included here because of copyrights. These are their titles:
Across the Universe (John Lennon/Paul McCartney)
Crossroads (Robert Johnson)
Laleña (Donovan Leitch)
Let the Mystery Be (Iris DeMent)
I hear a lot of influences in my originals that seeped in unconsciously though I wasn't practising at all. What you hear in this collection is, in part, bringing all that into awareness in order to let it go in search of authenticity, though it was so much fun that I spent many hours a day in the first four months of 2005 before finally burning out and moving on to a new project.
